- Held annually since 2014

HWPL World Peace Summit has been held annually since 2014, providing a platform for leaders in politics, religion, youth and women’s groups, journalism, and civil society around the world to discuss the ideas and practices required to achieve peace, a common goal of the global community. Last year’s Summit further added to the driving force for the realization of peace through an all-encompassing approach involving different areas of expertise. Such approach is based on the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW) and includes promoting international cooperation for the peaceful reunification of the Korean peninsula, submitting the DPCW to the United Nations and drawing support from States, developing a culture of finding a trustworthy religious scripture, advancing peace education, and establishing a youth, women’s, and media peace network.

Based on his experiences of fluctuating international relations in Eastern Europe, H.E. Stjepan Mesić, Former President of Croatia, said, “The role of HWPL is important more than ever. The political will for normalization exists on both sides of the two Koreas. It is the time to start the process for Korean reunification and establishing peace. Now HWPL can find new substance and open new processes. I would highly recommend that UN General Assembly puts forth the motion to include HWPL’ message for peace on its agenda at least once per year.”

H.E. Viktor Yushchenko, Former President of Ukraine, also said, “We feel the pain of your people unfairly divided and pray for the unification of your country. I believe that peace is approaching every day due to the indefinite activities of Chairman Man Hee Lee of HWPL and his organization, as well as the genuine desire of millions of people. I sincerely thank you for the fact that your organization is carrying the peace initiatives with the concrete action plans. The DPCW is a perfect and balanced document that can be the basis of solidarity for peacekeeping in all countries of the world. I think all the leaders of the countries should support the DPCW.”

As a special speaker, H.E. Dr. Moncef Marzouki, Former President of Tunisia, emphasized the mission of the media. “As a human rights activist, I know how much I owe to the independent press that has always unveiled the violations of the dictatorship in Tunisia and the Arab world and thus contributed largely to the Arab Spring. Today there is a new mission. In the face of the surge of hatred, rumors and false information that infect social networks, only honest and serious journalists are the guarantors of the truth, which is the essential condition for peace in hearts and minds. I am sure you will live up to the immense task ahead and wish you good luck in this vital mission.”
