President M. Zamam of the Bangladesh Community Korea (BCK) and Secretary General Arif Choi hosted the 4th BCK Award and Victory Day 2018 celebration meeting at the Sapphire Ballroom of the Lotte Hotel in Seoul on Dec. 16, 2018.
Attending the meeting, among other guests, were Publisher-Chairman Lee Kyung-sik of The Korea Post media who attended and covered the event with his Religious Feature Editor Ms. Sohn Jung-Hee and Reporter Park Ye-seon.
An estimated 80 members of the BCK attended the meeting which was followed by a buffet dinner, who included some 20 Korean guests.
The event included presentation of a Plaque of Citation to over a dozen contributors to the promotion of relations between Bangladesh and Korea as well as to the enhancement of interests of the Bangladesh residents in Korea.
Interspersed between the presentation of citations was the presentation of beautiful Bangladesh songs by lady singers and a Korean song by a male soloist. They all drew enthusiastic applauses from the guests.
Speaking to the meeting as a Guest of Honor, Publisher-Chairman Lee Kyung-sik of The Korea Post media (publisher of 3 English and 2 Korean-language media for the past 33 years) said, “Mr. Ariful is an invaluable human asset between Korea and Bangladesh for the promotion of understanding, friendship and cooperation.”
Excerpts from his speech follow:
We understand that the annual average economic growth rate of 6 per cent over the last decade and Bangladesh is rising as the next-generation market for the world.
Bangladesh is growing rapidly as a newly-rising developing country.
And she is known to have boundless growth potential with 70 per cent of its over 160 million people being under the age of 35. This poses a striking contrast with Korea where the number of old people grow rapidly--like myself.
Since the establishment of diplomatic ties between Korea and Bangladesh in 1973, Korea is enhancing her cooperation with Bangladesh in various fields
We understand that more than 200 major Korean companies are present in Bangladesh, making Korea the largest investor in Bangladesh's garment sector.
Their investments in recent years have been diversified into infrastructure, energy and consumer goods, which will lead to further development of the bilateral cooperation.
Korea and Bangladesh have boundless potential for further growth and development in all fields, especially the economic cooperation.
