“Chilgok, Flow Into Peace”
The 7th Nakdong River World Peace Culture Festival and the 10th Nakdong River Area Battle Victory Festival will take place on October 11-13, 2019 at Chilgok Ecological Park.
A grand opening ceremony will begin at 17:30 on October 11, with foreigners as well as local residents being expected to attend. Of note, special guests, US Army soldiers, Korean soldiers, honor guards and military bands are expected to gather together at the Chilgokbo Ecological Park. Music-dance troupes of young boys and girls will present performances during the opening and closing ceremonies.
Chilgok, North Gyeongsang Province, is a place where a bloody battle took place for 55 days from Aug. 1, 1950 to Sept. 24, 1950 during the Korean War.
“The purpose of this festival is to spread a peace message toward the world by praying peace settlement on the global community and on the Korean Peninsula,” a Chilgok County official said. “In 2019, when a new era of peace opens after overcoming the pain of the Korean Peninsula, we will begin our journey in Chilgok, a holy land of peace in the Republic of Korea, where we remember and thank our warriors of 69 years ago and promise to protect peace,” he said.
He went to say: “A picnic on a sunny day, a short sleep in a warm bed, chatting with friends, having dinner with family. And peaceful us. Have you ever thought about where the peace in our daily lives came from? The Republic of Korea was protected by ordinary people in 1950. We are living in a peaceful Korea where someone's father, brother and sister have been kept as warriors.”
Another Chilgok official said: “We still remember the sacrifices of those who devoted their lives to defend the peace and freedom of the world in a faraway foreign country, of which they hadn’t even known the name.”
Honoring their sacrifices and helping settle peace on the Korean Peninsula, Chilgok County hosts the Nakdong River World Peace Culture Festival in October annually, together with North Gyeongsang Province and Ministry of National Defense. This year’s festival is set to take place on October 11-13 at the Chilgokbo Ecological Park
